Every year, my 9 year old son Tanner and I go door to door about 4 times over a period of 3 weeks. We are selling raffle tickets for the Bagby Elementary Halloween Fun Night. It is a TOUGH job! Our goal each evening is to sell 30-40 tickets at $1 each. Each night we come home after we reach the targeted number. This year, Tanner asked me if we could DRIVE the car instead of walk as we sell! WHAT?!
The truth is, I HATE going door to door to sell anything, but each year Tanner has been a TOP SELLER at his school with his ticket sales. In order to get there, he has to sell those tickets on his own-every last one. It’s hard work. The lesson about working hard and pounding the pavement and reaching a goal is the reason I do this with him every year. He is motivated because the top sellers in the entire school get a Top Seller T-Shirt and get to choose a prize at the end of the evening. There are usually a lot of great prizes. Last year, he chose a fairly lame prize, but I didn’t say anything as we scoured the possibilities. I doubted he would use the prize and there were others he might enjoy better, but who was I to ‘influence’ his choice at the choosing appointment (which is a 10 minute occasion) he looked forward to for about a week? It is hard when we knock on a door and get just a buck from someone. But at least they had the heart to give a little something and didn’t say no! That’s just means a few more doors to go for the yeses! But we forge ahead. Tomorrow afternoon, we will have a “Power Strategy” selling meeting where we discuss our approach. I’ve already asked for a 100 additional tickets from the school so we don’t run out of tickets at any point in our sales process. Wish us luck–the first day out is always the hardest. Anyway, let’s hope a lot of people are home. We alternate weekends and a weekday afternoon here and there.
One more update on the miracle non snoring device. It’s STILL working like a dream. Kent still isn’t making a PEEP all night with that thing on. LOVE IT!! Anyone who sleeps with a snorer and is kept up at night needs to look into this thing!!
