Before I launch into my spiel, I want to say how very much in love I am with my sweet, handsome, loving husband of….let’s see…..13 years. He is amazing and my very best friend. I could not ask for a better father for our two children and I am lucky to have him. And yet, fifteen years ago Kent would have been wining and dining me, showering me with flowers AND candy and probably two cards (a funny one and a mushy one) to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Fast forward 13 years, two kids, a dog, and a couple of busy jobs, and this is how we celebrate: he comes home from work last night and tells me he DID intend on giving me flowers for Valentine’s, but they won’t be delivered until NEXT Friday. He accidentally selected the wrong Friday as he ordered them via the internet. We are having BLT’s for dinner because the bacon in the fridge has one more day until it’s expired. It’s 1:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day and I still need to get out of the house to run to the drug store to mill through the left over pickins’ and find a card for him He’ll have one before we go to bed tonight….I promise.
Anyway, in my mind, love is really about the day to day stuff–showing each other our love in little ways every day, in some way. So, these Hallmark holidays do get me to go out and buy a card, to be politically correct, but I’m ok with a BLT and flowers that arrive a week late. He lets me sleep in in the mornings, he makes me breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day, he lets me nap on Saturdays AND Sundays, he cooks, he cleans, the boys think he’s the sun and the moon. He’s my soul mate. Although I could write anything here about him–he doesn’t read the blog!
Here’s an image of our little Max, in his very own oh-so-cute Valentine’s Day party hat.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
