Holiday Rush Already…..!
October 25, 2008 – 5:03 am
All,
I apologize for not updating the blog over the last few weeks. The holiday crowds have descended and I’ve been extremely busy with sessions. For some reason, in addition to the usual increase in family sessions for the holidays, there’s been a significant increase in the number of maternity and newborn sessions the last two months. I will try to get back to posting to my blog on a weekly basis when I am feeling more caught up. In the meantime, I will be adding some new images to the web site of all the fabulous new families, kids and brand new babies I am photographing!
Life is precious…
October 6, 2008 – 7:08 am
I am always thinking how fortunate I am to do something I love, and also feel that I am giving a little piece of myself to every family I photograph. Through my camera, I try to capture the love I witness families have for each other–and what I see as an observer from the outside. Sometimes families arrive at my studio frazzled and stressed. I KNOW that it can be a lot of work to make it into the studio in one piece for a session–and I totally appreciate what people go through to have the images made. I know that after I deliver the orders, that families don’t regret the investment of time or money.
But I want to talk about something that made me very sad this week. I photographed a family with a very ill family member who passed away this weekend. The ill family member was young; under the age of 30. I cannot begin to understand the amount of pain this family must be going through and the amount of courage and determination it took to face the reality of losing her. She was so brave and her smiles were plentiful as we had the session.
In summary, I am so grateful to have met this family who has helped remind me I need to keep things in perspective. I tend to sweat the small things in life, and when I witness things like this going on around me, I feel ashamed of myself.
This family has given me a gift and reminded me of the magic and true meaning of what my camera helps me do every day that I use it. This family has been and will continue to be in my prayers in the coming weeks. Readers… keep your loved ones close and give them extra hugs and kisses, even when they don’t deserve it! Goodnight!
Olivia…
October 6, 2008 – 5:05 am
I was so excited to see baby Olivia back for a session. I photographed her at 5 months (and what a chubber she was!) and it was delightful to see how much she had grown over the past year and a half. She is still a chunk, and loves to smile, laugh and dance. Her mom, Jen, stayed up late the night before our appointment and baked a cake that she could eat/demolish at the end of the session. However, Olivia just daintily poked at the cake, eating the little circle sprinkles. Usually the cakes do not leave the studio in such pristine shape.
We ended up with great images of her and her parents and I’m going to create a beautiful leather boardbook featuring the favorites from the session. Mike and Jen, what a little gem you have!
The top image is from our first session, and the bottom image is what she looks like now….
